Lecture during the 4th symposium for the research on film music at the university of Kiel on July 9th at 230 p.m. (Bachsaal)
The significance of Max Steiner´s role as pioneer of modern film music will be demonstrated. Some of his compositional tools will be shown, as he used them in the film Casablanca. At the end of the lecture an example of Richard Wagner´s opera Der Ring des Nibelungen will be used to prove that his idea of musical theater is a role model for symphonic flm music
